Sometimes it's Tough
By Ronnie Booth
As well as being exciting, dramatic and addictive horseracing can sometimes be cruel, very cruel especially the National Hunt side.
This week, very sadly Rogues Gallery Racing lost a family member, Squiggles, a six-year-old bay mare. Squiggles was trained at Newmarket by James Owen for Rogues Gallery Racing and suffered a fatal injury running over a three-mile handicap hurdle at Plumpton Racecourse.
Squiggles was a popular horse within the Syndicate not just because of her name but the potential she was showing in her previous races. She was carrying the dreams of many in the syndicate and now sadly we will never know how good she was to become.
Squiggles started her career in Point-To-Point Racing then moving up to Hurdling, running at Hexham, Ludlow and Huntingdon before winning a three-mile Handicap Hurdle last December at Doncaster in great style.
Rogues Gallery Racing is a very close syndicate who care passionately about all their horses and their welfare. All the members have been supporting those who suffer the most from such a loss and in particular the trainer, jockey and stable staff who looked after Squiggles.
Horse racing moves on quickly, but our syndicate members never forget the horses who have moved on or are no longer with us and you can be sure our next win will be dedicated to Squiggles and there will be a few glasses raised in the memory of our bonnie lass.
